The mother of a family with five children shared that although the stimulus check received in 2020 is much appreciated, it was not enough money, even on top of the monthly food stamp allowance, to feed her kids for one month.
The school closings led to her children participating in classes from home. Therefore, they no longer had access to receive the free and reduced cost breakfast and lunch meals provided at school.
The additional meals at home resulted in a significant increase in the family grocery costs and with the increase in the cost of groceries, she found it difficult to afford food in the quantity and with the nutritional quality needed to feed her children.
Reaching the World provides supplemental groceries through monthly food distributions to families, especially large families, to ensure they are food secure now.
